Meet the Artist: Sophie
Sophie Started Stickyscreens back in 2019.
After attending a center for the arts high school and college, she took her love of design and transformed it into something tangible for the world to enjoy!
“Once I learned about screenprinting I near instantly fell in love.“ Having studied film photography since high school, Sophie has displayed an affinity for the dark room ever since. One of the things that spark interest for her is the different crossovers of materials and mediums.
Starting out on her journey, Sophie supported local artists by making custom merch for bands. Until she was ready to release the iconic “frog tote” which set Stickyscreens off from there.
Sustainability
As a small business owner, being mindful of making an impact on the environment is an important job to uphold. Here at Stickyscreens we use compostable mailers, tissue paper, and recycled stickers for all packaging purposes.
We also save all paper waste and turn it into recycled paper by hand! These can then be used for cards, prints, etc.
Screen Printing
Screen-printing is a stencil based printing process that gives the ability to print multiple duplicates of one design on a variety of print surfaces.
The beauty of screen-printing for me comes from the hands-on nature of the process. Since I print with a manual press, all of the production is done by hand as opposed to loading up an automatic machine. Each piece that’s created then gets to be thoroughly done and quality checked across every step from burning the stencil to the screen, to pulling the squeegee!
I love how intensive and technical the process can be, and to push limits on what my equipment is capable of. Although the medium can be limiting in some respects, I enjoy taking on new projects that force me to find or make up new techniques to make the end goal possible. That being said, send over whatever ideas you have and I will do everything I can to try and make it possible! :)
